Why are birds so good at avoiding getting hit by cars?

There will be times I’m on normal roads or even driving fast on a highway and have had very close encounters with birds flying aross the front of my car.

I never see dead birds on the road so I just assume they have some kind of special airflow mechanism that allowed them to avoid accidents.

Oh man, this reminds me of when I hit a pretty good sized bird when entering the highway….. at least it was instant….. but two or more were flying directly perpendicular to the highway and just a few inches lower than the height of my truck’s hoodline.

As they crossed right in front of a few cars and mine, they dodged the one to my left and one bird was unlucky enough to meet the front right corner of my truck. Almost made it, but damn I hit it and a blast of feathers went over my hood and in my rearview it looked like a feather pillow exploded as I hit it on the entry ramp.

I don’t think there were any remains…..
