Why are black lcd screens less painfull to the eye than white lcd screens?

I know that lcd screens use backlight so even if it’s showing a dark scene it’s doesn’t show true black like oled screens.

But I could feel that black led screens are easier to look in the night. How can this happen? Isn’t the brightness of the backlight same whether it’s displaying white or black?

No it’s not. A dark screen is less bright than an light screen. Therefore a black lcd screen is less painful.
