Why are eyes so recognisable? Like on photographs when anonymity is being kept, a black strip blacks out the eyes but the rest of the face is visible. How does this stop the person being recognised just because their eyes are covered?

Eye shape, depth and width play a big role on making a face. I learned that in Skyrim character creation.
