Why are ginkgo trees considered endangered despite being everywhere in urban environments?

There are relatively few in the wild. This is why it is listed as endangered. Every plant and animal fulfills its own niche in an ecosystem and that system suffers when it no longer exists in its natural habitat. The endangered species lists highlight certain species in peril, but in most cases it reflects whole ecosystems in peril.
