Why are modern land mammals so much smaller than animals in the dinosaur 🦕 age?

During the dinosaur age, some were just massive. Why are modern land mammals, and others so tiny. Comparing a modern tiger to a sabertooth is no contest.

Basically because the big Dinosaurs were in an evolutionary arms race of being bigger than the opponent which eventually became the big names like brachiosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex. Today’s animals aren’t locked in an arms race like that so they aren’t constantly getting bigger as a result, like for an example you don’t see huger elephants because they main predators in their areas like lions and whatnot aren’t trying to specifically target the elephants because it’s too much trouble and they have the wildebeest to hunt and eat. Now of course there were other reasons for the dinosaurs extreme size but that’s the one I chose to highlight.
