Why are some towels much more absorbent than others?

A towel is made of 3 different yarns. It mostly depends on the kind of yarn and the twist of yarn used on pile yarn( the loops that you see). Cotton yarn with zero twist has most absorbency. Also if the loops are long they absorb more water.
