Why are synchronized divers so jacked?

It’s not like they are encountering a lot of resistance when jumping down into the water?

They do a lot of gymnastics as part of their training.

Also, Olympic diving is one of those sports that you kind of get shunted into. Like you are learning to be a competitive swimmer, and then the coach asks you to give driving a try, and if you’re better at it than swimming, then that’s what you do now. But you still have all that training as a swimmer from before.

We had a diving team at West Edmonton Mall one year, some of them would dive from the roof of the mall into the pool. From the glass roof in this pic to the pool at the bottom of the pic https://www.flickr.com/photos/dabcanboulet/130593135.

Short answer: Diving takes a lot more energy and strength than it looks, and spinning fast is easier when you’re small. So they train to be muscle-y while not large, which tends towards a very low body fat.

Training can be like doing plyometric workouts for about 2-hours straight.

Synchronized divers are impressively toned due to their training regimen, which combines intense core workouts and plyometrics. These exercises enhance their ability to control movements mid-air and maintain perfect form. The result? A lean, muscular physique that’s not just for show but crucial for executing flawless dives. Their athleticism and strength-to-weight ratio are honed through hours of focused practice, making them stand out in the water and on the podium.

To do the acrobatics with strict form and enough speed to complete the maneuver before hitting the water takes a lot of power. Power is, basically, how fast you can use your strength. They are jacked to generate as much power as possible to get as much spin in before they reach the water.
