Why are the fingerprints of identical twins not identical?

If I remember correctly, fingerprints are ac t ually caused by the pressure of the amniotic fluid during fetal development – similar to the ripples of sand on the ocean floor. Since the flow around we each baby is different, the fingerprints become unique.
