why are there multifunction lasers?

I understand that there are so many types of laser to target skin concerns, but some are usually advertised as “one fix for all problems” kind of, what are the properties these lasers have that made them live to the promise, of is it just marketing strategy?

The extremely short version

Some machines for laser therapies have multiple lasing units inside and others use specific optical crystals to alter the frequency/wavelength to mimic different lasing units.

Different wavelengths of light have varying levels of skin penetration and different chemical structures within body tissue absorb the energy from specific wavelengths at different rates.

I didn’t do enough physics to properly explain it all, but [Optical Frequency Multipliers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_frequency_multiplier) is the technical name for these crystals.
