Why are twist-offs harder to open when your hands are wet?

This is technically a biology question right?

Okay I should rephrase. Why does it feel like my hand is being sliced into when hands are wet, yet effortless when dry. Obviously I’m making contact, otherwise my hand wouldn’t get cut, so it’s not slippery per say.

You unconsciously grip the lid much more tightly with wet hands, since the water reduces the friction between your hands and the lid. Years of experience with opening things have taught you to grip more tightly when there’s less grip, but that causes some pain with the pointy metal lids of glass bottles.
