Why are X and Y used to determine the part of DNA that determines whether you’ll inherit a Male or Female’s genes? (Chromosomes).

Because under a microscope, the X and Y chromosomes kind of look like the letters X and Y.
Google microscopic images of them and it’s relatively easy to see, the X chromosome is fairly obvious, the Y chromosome is a bit harder to tell as it’s shorter and sometimes just kind of looks like a squished ball, but it has three sections, vaguely looks like a Y, and since X is named X naming it’s counterpart Y makes sense
