Why can multiple apps on a computer or device simultaneously do audio out (eg speakers) but only one at a time can do audio in (microphone)?

The camera and mic can operate across multiple app simultaneously. In fact, if you have Siri enabled, it’s always processing input even when you’re recording a voice memo or making phone call or something. Many people speculate your camera is always on as well…

Apps don’t make it easy because why would you want to do that?
