Because it’s still in your stomach being digested and when you burp from the pressure caused by those digestive gasses, some flavor particles are brought up.

Small amounts of your partially-digested food are suspended in the gas bubble. When you burp, this is brought back to your taste buds but especially your olfactory nerves (smell). You are much more re-smelling than re-tasting your food.

When we eat, the food we swallow goes into our stomachs. The stomach then starts to break down the food so that our bodies can use it. As the food is being broken down, it gives off gas which can build up in our stomachs. After an hour or two, this gas is released through our mouths in the form of a burp. As the gas passes over our tongues, we can taste the food that we ate earlier.
