why can’t cancer be treated if it’s spread? Why can’t chemo target the different cancer growths?

Can the spread be controlled while targeting one area then treating the next for example?

Once cancer spreads it tends to do so very quickly. You can’t really clear it one organ at a time. Sort of like if your house is on fire and then trying to put it out by focusing on one room at a time. By the time one room is clear, the fire spreads to another room. And once you go to another room, the room you just cleared starts on fire again. You have to focus on the entire house. The problem here is that chemo that widespread and strong will kill the patient before it eliminates the cancer.

Bear in mind that chemo is sort of like “helping” the body’s immune system. It doesn’t work all by itself. The problem is that there is a limit to the immune system – it cannot simply expand its capacity. Basically the spreading cancer overwhelms the immune system and the chemo no longer helps enough to defeat the cancer.
