– Why can’t front windshields have the same defrosting method as rear windshields?

The rear windshield defrosters seem so much more effective. Is it just the lines across the drivers field of view that makes it decidedly unsafe?

In the UK Ford started using them back in the 1980s and they are pretty common now.

You can just see the lines if you look closely, but they are so fine they don’t interfere with driving these days, early ones could be a little hazy at night.
