– Why can’t front windshields have the same defrosting method as rear windshields?

The rear windshield defrosters seem so much more effective. Is it just the lines across the drivers field of view that makes it decidedly unsafe?

It is completely possible to use a similar wired technology as is used on rear windscreens on the front as well.

I believe it has a few tweaks for visibility reasons in comparison to the rear versions, but it is available on the market.

The reason it isn’t available as a standard option on most cars? Patents…

The Ford motor company developed and patented their system, so until relatively recently it was only available on Ford branded vehicles.

Today I believe they are willing to license its use it to other companies, and there are competing systems now available that use slightly different technologies to side step any patent’s, so it is becoming an option on more vehicles.
