The rear windshield defrosters seem so much more effective. Is it just the lines across the drivers field of view that makes it decidedly unsafe?

It is nice though I almost never use it, definitely just as effective as the rear glass defrost, combine it with the heater and you can have a clear windshield in 10 minutes

Range Rover has the defroster wires in the front windshield. I find it distracting and would avoid buying that option.
heated windscreens are standard in Ford cars, and any brand thats been owned by Ford.
so Volvo, Range Rover, Aston Martin for example
My Range Rover Evoque has a heated windshield. They use thin vertical wires for heat which you can just barely see if you change focus. Its awesome since I park outside and can defrost the windshield in about a minute

You can get cars with that on. As far as I’m aware Ford hold the rights to it. The lines are much thinner that on the rear and there are more of them so they don’t affect your field of vision. I loved my car with that on as I’m too small to reach the middle of the car.
