why can’t glasses be made of the same material as used in contact lenses? They wouldn’t break so easily

I’m genuinely curious. Is it about the shape, durability or something else?

Gel lenses have to continuously be immersed in fluid or they will dry out. Soft plastic lenses will scratch after the first cleaning attempt.

This is the first time I hear about lenses breaking *easily*. If they’re thin glass lenses you’d have to work **really** hard to shatter them. Any kind of similar force would easily destroy any other kind of lense as well. Glass is extremely hard.
