Im confused as to why u have 3 or 4+ minutes after water fills your lungs and u pass out for someone to attempt cpr and keep you alive but when u are choked or smothered you die instantly?

That’s not how it works.
When your heart stops, it can be restarted for a very brief period of time. Even without restarting it, CPR can keep your brain alive until someone with a heart shocking machine arrives to restart it.
If choking crushes your windpipe so air can’t get inside, that’s bad on a separate level.
