why can’t teeth go back to their natural white by washing them daily?

It absolutely does for me. My teeth can be as yellow as can be but after 3 days of brushing, flossing, and LISTERINE they’re back as white as can be.
I assume that’s because I’ve never let any permanent staining occur and the mouthwash knocks out all the bacteria clinging to the teeth that brushing misses
