– Why can’t you take all of the pills in an antibiotic prescription in one day, rather than 2 or 3 per day

I’m assuming it has to do with making sure you get any straggler bacteria, but wouldn’t taking all the pills at once shock and awe the little buggers and force them to surrender?

Too much drugs in you hurts you.

The per day instructions are to keep the amount in your body fighting the infection while not hurting you too much.

They do usually “shock” the little buggers by giving a double or triple dose for the first dose depending on the antibiotic. Your body can only digest and breakdown so much at a time so you risk hurting yourself, either kidneys or liver gets overwhelmed and you can die. Seriously we have a limit to how much we can take in at one time of everything, even water.

I don’t like the Big Bang Theory, but I saw a scene where Penny was describing all the money she was spending on various vitamins and Sheldon tells her that what she’s paying for is essentially very expensive urine.

That was actually pretty funny.

When you drink medicine or eat a tablet, the medicine goes to your stomach. After you digest it, it goes throughout your whole body. Some medicines get weaker a few hours after you take them so you need to take it again to keep the amount of medicine in your body high enough to stop the infection from growing. Other medicines stay in your body long enough that you only need to take one a day.
