Why did falling on my behind really hurt but the cuts from glass shards didn’t and continued not to hurt?

I’m a busboy and today I was delivering 3 waters to customers outside. As I left my my station with the waters I slipped on some oil on the floor and landed my behind. During that I dropped the glasses and they shattered making a big mess of glass and water. Some of that glass cut me and I have one in particular that was a few millimetres deep and about an inch long. The strange thing is i felt no pain in my arms whatsoever. Why does my lower half really hurt but not the cuts?

Cuts from glass often don’t hurt immediately or at all because the glass is so sharp. It makes a very clean cut that only damages cells that happen to be exactly in the path of the edge, unlike, say road rash where tissue is just indiscriminately torn away. The bruise you got from falling is similar, less severe damage, but spread over a large area.
