Why do animals have instincts?

How can a human or animal have an instinct to do something it has no experience with doing in its life? Such as a beaver building a dam or geese migrating for the winter?

Because they can’t read.

Excluding humans, all animals lack the ability to record and pass down information to future generations. Some _might_ teach their young how to hunt and such, but for the most part a newborn whatever needs to be fully functional and ready to go right when it pops out.

Instincts become even more important when it comes to reproduction, as the idea of sex, birth, and how to raise young are things that are an absolute necessity for life to continue, yet most animals lack the ability to teach these things.
