Why do animals have instincts?

How can a human or animal have an instinct to do something it has no experience with doing in its life? Such as a beaver building a dam or geese migrating for the winter?

Instincts are there to keep animals alive. It’s a result of evolution.

Instincts are not infallible though. Logic and science should always come before instinct. For example if a child is receiving vaccines a parents natural instinct may be to get that child away from that nurse who is hurting them. However that child needs the vaccine to avoid diseases that would be far worse than the temporary pain caused by the vaccine.
