Blocked noses get significantly more annoying when you lie down or sit down. However, I am unsure why I don’t feel like there would be any difference and you usually feel better with all sickness when you rest.

Part of a congested nose is engorged blood vessels, so when lying down, the blood vessels pool with more blood and the congestion gets worse. Phenylephrine nasal sprays work by constricting the blood vessels in the nose to recucd that congestion.
It varies between people. Often lying down means that any running stuff in your nose will run down the back of your throat. If you are sitting upright it is probably okay. But if you are sitting down and leaning your head back, it might be an issue for some people.
