Why do burps leave an aftertaste similar to what we had just eaten an hour or so prior?

Because burps don’t come from your lungs, they come from your stomach, It is the gas that is produced by the food you have consumed. So, if you have consumed a Hot Dog it is essentially the gas of the Hot Dog and your stomach acid breaking it down.
