Why do certain animals eyes glow?

Animals that have eyes that seem to “glow” have an extra part of their eyes that we don’t have. It’s a thin reflective layer just behind the retina at the back of the eye called the tapetum lucidum. The tapetum lucidum greatly enhances the night vision of certain animals because it reflects extra light back through the retina. It’s very common in both predator and prey animals that are active at night, because obviously having good night vision helps younhunt or avoid predators.
