Why do children like cartoons?

I remember waking up at 6:00 to watch cartoons for hours as a child so I know myself how it is to be addicted to them. Is there a science behind why do children naturally like cartoons?

Because cartoons are great. They can do almost all of what live action can do, plus a whole bunch of stuff licve action can’t do, at least not without spending a ton of money on cgi, plus some more stuff live action straight up can’t do even with cgi.

Children don’t like cartoons abnormally. Rather, there are just very few cartoons aimed at adults. If there were more, adults would like them too.

It’s easier to understand what’s going on. Everything is very clearly outlined and in bright colors. It’s extremely obvious what you ought to be focusing on, and the “story” is usually easy to follow.

The opposite would be some movie where nothing obviously dramatic happens, and people just talk in riddles to each other. Some high brow cultural movie. Kids wouldn’t understand a thing, and it’d be terribly uninteresting.

Also the fact that everything is exaggerated in cartoons. Gestures, facial expressions, jokes.. children learn how to read body language and cartoons are essentially fun, colorful textbooks full of great examples

I grew up in the 80’s and used to get so disappointed when the cartoons ended and live action shows came on.

I still enjoy cartoon luckily
