Shouldn’t they be as fast when you first start them as they are after they have been running awhile?

There are a lot of programs that run only when you start the computer up and they are all competiting for cpu time.

When you start it up it’s retrieving the information from the hard drive. Then while the computer is running and as you’re using applications it stores them in RAM, which is faster.
