Because it’s easy, we find no joy in anything, in dreams we can be happy, and generally a lack of energy

Depression makes you physically tired. Sleep helps you escape from being awake. Being awake sucks when you’re depressed.

I once read a master thesis on depression and suicidal tendencies. the author describes depression as “a wound that leaks energy”, as in mental and physical energy. this means that depressed people have little to no energy to do anything. this is why they sleep so much and have a hard time doing even small tasks such as toothbrushing and bathing.

as someone that dealt with depression for most of my life I can attest that it does correlate with lack of energy.

The brain’s chemicals aren’t flowing normally, making the person tired and sad. During Sleep, the person doesn’t feel tired and as sad, and the brain tries to clean itself and restore chemical levels to normal.
