Guitars are designed to be easily detuned and retuned for a number of reasons.

1) Guitar strings are lighter than piano strings, so they need to be replaced more often.

2) Guitars are typically more mobile and get jostled around more than a stationary piano with internal strings so they can break easier.

3) Some people change tuning between different songs so being able to twist a peg really quickly is better than having only one tune locked in place forever.
