why do hot and cold water sound different when they’re being poured?


I was making tea and thought “yes, you can tell right away by the sound if you’re pouring hot water vs cold.”

During the pour you briefly increase the surface area considerably. Hot water will use this opportunity to rapidly evaporate, mixing a lot of gas in with the liquid, breaking up the stream and changing the whole dynamics of the pour.

Cold water doesn’t do this, and just falls under gravity.

And how do the increased surface area and addition of gas make water sound different? (Maybe it’s explained by the YouTube video linked below? I’ll watch that ASAP.)
