Why do house water filter jugs need to be replaced much faster than a camping/survival water filter?

Survival filter rated at 100,000 gallons: https://sawyer.com/products/mini-filter/

House filter rated at 150 gallons(and this is longer than most): https://www.epicwaterfilters.com/products/epic-pure-water-filter-pitcher

They’re filtering different things.

– The survival filter is to filter out bacteria.

– The house filter is to filter out substances.

– (To illustrate the point) a sieve is to filter out large rocks and debris.

This means they are made very differently and break at different rates. Contrast with a sieve, which will have a much higher rating than even the survival filter.
