That particular survival filter only removes macromolecules such as bacteria and larger objects. Something *will* clog it before 100,000 gallons at which point you’ll run some water through it backwards to remove the clog as well as many of the caught particles.
The particular house filter removes fully dissolved chemicals. This can only be done by bringing all the water into contact with a different, reactive chemical. When a particular part of the *extremely large* surface area of the reactive chemical reacts with a chemical you want removed, that part of the surface can no longer be “unclogged” by running water backwards.
