Why do job applications in the U.S. always separate “Hispanic or Latino” from everyone else in the ethnic background section?

In short it’s because the US is *obsessed* with race and racism. In order to curtail racism it just makes the problem worse. Now racism is the new elephant in the room. It’s so bad that *food is racist*. Fried chicken, anyone?
