Why do kids wake up earlier and with more energy than adults?

My son is a ball of energy and I hardly function for the first 30 min of waking up. Why?

When I was a kid, my bed time was at 8 PM. Assuming a normal human sleep cycle of 8 hours, that would mean a 4 AM wake up time. Let’s say my 10 year old self decided to let you sleep in until 6 AM before knocking on your door wondering where my bowl of cereal was, now that’s a 10 hour sleep cycle. You can’t put a kid down for bed early and expect them to sleep 12 hours just because it’s Saturday morning.

Studies have shown they actually have [more energy](https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2018-04-24/study-children-have-more-energy-than-well-trained-adults) than trained athletes.

Your son is not mentally weighed down with responsibilities. I don’t have any kids myself but the closest thing I can relate to this is when going on vacation with friends of lesser means. It was mentally exhausting having to plan and pay for (up front) all the accommodations being the only person in the group to have the means to do it.
