Why do men go bald in the same way?

It’s always the receding hairline at the temples and at the top of the head. What makes these hairs special? There’s also (afaik) never a stubborn hair that keeps growing.
It would make far more sense intuitively that hair would uniformly get thinner until someone’s bald.

The most common type of baldness in men is hormone related. The hormone dihydrotestosterone makes it so that blood, and thus nutrients, cannot reach hair follicles. This causes the hair to slowly die

In order for this to happen, you need to have hair follicles susceptible to this hormone. This is where genetics comes into play but also the location of the hair. Not all hair is equal, hair on your chin for example responds to testosterone in the opposite way…it grows!

The hair on the side and back of the scalp seem less affected by the effects of dihydrotestosterone
