Why do newer gaming consoles not have long startups like they did 15-20 years ago?

Mixture of gigabyte data-rate SSDs and the lighter OS. These consoles are optimized to load only what they need, so the footprint can be small.
Compared to something like Windows (still loads fast with one), there’s quite a bit less there. You can also refactor code to make things more efficient, so I’m sure they’ve optimized the hell out of it.
