Our tear ducts produce a combination of liquids and oils to lubricate and protect the surface of the eye every time we blink. The quality of these tears goes down the longer we stay awake.
With lower quality tear film, parts of our eyes are exposed to the air and any irritants in it, causing it to become red and inflamed.
Closing our eyes during a full night’s rest allows the tear ducts to recover back to producing good quality tears.
