Why do people eat snails but not slugs?

As far as I’m aware people don’t eat slugs, but snails are widely eaten. What’s the difference? They both look the same basically but I’ve never heard of slugs being eaten, at least in the same way snails are ate

Slugs can give you brain parasites, and their texture is so unappetizing no one cares to farm them

We can eat snails because they’re farmed and carefully prepared to be safe. Slugs, on the other hand, are wild and can carry harmful parasites, making them unsafe to eat.

Snails are softer because they have a shell to shield their squishy bodies. This makes them nicer to eat. Slugs are chewier and have a thicker, tougher skin layer to protect them against sharp objects and abrasion.

You can eat them, but the slime is really, really horrible. However, I found this link that explains how to deslime them and clean them. It’s not something I’m planning to do this week, but come the apocalypse…

An easy answer is slugs aren’t just shell-less snails. They are different creatures that have a different (worse) taste and texture
