Why do people experience ringing in their ears after shock, such as being injured?

Is this a real physiological response, or is it something exaggerated/pumped by popular media? If it is true, what are the underlying mechanisms that cause this?

Tinnitus or the ringing in the ears doesn’t have a single root cause instead it can be a blockage, damage to the ear drum, otosclerosis or damage to the stereocilla. To avoid tinnitus be careful of what you put into your ears and avoid loud sounds. https://youtu.be/TjX2SIqhCRs
