Why do people feel very hungry after smoking marijuana?

I recently started smoking up and I feel so hungry after that. Especially for junk. I don’t have a good appetite and I am very skinny but geez this weed stuff is making me gain some good calories.

The sensation of hunger after smoking weed, often referred to as “the munchies,” is believed to be caused by the activation of certain receptors in the brain, particularly in the hypothalamus, which regulates appetite. THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, can stimulate these receptors, leading to an increase in appetite and the sensation of hunger. Additionally, THC can enhance the sense of taste and smell, making food more appealing and intensifying the craving for it.

it’s called the munchies! THC binds to a receptor in your belly (which is WAY more connected to your brain and emotions than you would think!) and causes hunger.

That side effect of THC is used in cancer treatment to help increase appetite during chemo- and radiation therapy. Both treatments can cause nausea, which discourages eating enough nutrition.

Food also tastes way better. Like you are able to notice certain aspects of flavours you didn’t before, and it’s a treat. Especially sweet things.

You savour the initial taste, notice how it changes as it melts in the mouth and then how everything tastes together

If you wanna keep gaining calories drop the weed. Yeah the munchies are fine at the start, but it fucks up your digestive system, you’ll start skipping regular meals and at the end of the day you’ll eat way less.

BBQ food especially mexican style with charcoal/wood will be the best food you ever eaten while being high on THC.
