Why do people globally give so much credence to signatures: they’re eaily forged.

They don’t. There’s a video from maybe 15 years ago where a guy pays by check using increasingly outlandish signatures and has no problem until he “buys” several large screen TVs and signs the checks “Do Not Cash”.
A signature is an indication of intent – it is not ID.
