Why do people tend to replicate the personalities and/or behaviours of fictional characters?

I’ve found that the more show I watch, the more often I find a character I really connect with. The thing is, later on when I interact with others, I will subconsciously imitate some action or behaviours of the character I am currently invested in. Why is it that I, and many others connect to fictional, sometimes even animated characters in this way?

Because your personality is largely a mixing bowl of other peoples personalities that you were influenced by as you were growing up. You aren’t born knowing “how to act”. You saw your parents, your elders, your friends, even television and movie personalities, and learned how to act by watching others and implementing those characteristics. People that you respected, you emulated. You took on their characteristics because you liked the characteristics they showed to you.

We all learn from other people. Even fictional ones. We learn what we like, and what we don’t like. No surprise then to find that we repeat the things we like to other people, in words and actions.
