why do reptiles and amphibians live longer than mammals of a similar size

274 viewsBiologyOther

The average mouse can live for about 2 years, the average hamster can live for about 3 to 4 years

I’m lizard or a frog of a similar size can live much longer, 5 to 10 years, twice that long in captivity
Overall, reptiles generally live longer than Mammals

How does this happen

There are some hypothesis that when lizards were the top dogs 65 MYA, they were advantaged to live long, where as the mammals (that were all rodent-like) had to breed a lot to survive. This means living longer isn’t as important.

This has carried through to modern day.

There isn’t any solid evidence for it. But there isn’t many better hypothesis
