Sharks don’t do this out of habit. The only time you may see this is if they’re in really shallow water or they’re investigating something at the surface of the water. In fact, sharks prefer to swim as deep as they can.

Dolphin’s on the other hand do often times swim very high up to the point where their dorsal fins break the surface of the water. Their fins are crescent shaped, so they’re easy to tell apart from a sharks fin.
