I make candles and this is just what I have noticed from my experience. It can be a low quality wax, too much/too little fragrance oil/color, or the wrong size wick.

The specific gravity of candle wax tells you the wax – water ratio. Higher water ratio means faster rates of evaporation and shorter candle burn times. These are cheaper candles bc water is cheaper than wax. Some specific types of additives like certain fragrances, dyes, and wick composition play a part but the specific gravity of the candle will be the most determining factor.
