why do some English speakers end their words by adding “a” or “o” like in the song “whiskey In The Jar-o” or when some one yells “shut up-a”?

As a non native English speaker, I find it so difficult to grasp.

My interpretation of the “shut up-a” is more of a northern midwestern to Canadian style “shut up, ey?” with the “ey” being more of an exclamation than a proper word. With English being the current lingo Franca, there’s so many different cultures that use it in their own way and it tends to erode all but the most rigid norms
