Why do some plastics get yellow over time?

So I recently found my childhood SNES and it has turned yellow. I’ve seen this happen to a lot of consoles online and I know how to remove the yellowing, I’m just wondering why and how it happens?

ABS plastics are infused with bromine which is used as a flame retardant. Over time exposure to UV light causes the brominated plastic to yellow; it can be reversed by submerging it in a hydrogen peroxide solution and UV light.

They are both gathering dust and other particles from the air and breaking down due to age and uv exposure.

It’s an accumulation of dust, and in homes a large amount out airborne dust are dry skin particles.
