Why do some statues have their noses broken off?

It’s kinda the same thing that happens to arms on old statues. If it’s been handled roughly or been in bad conditions for a while, the bits that stick out are the most likely to break off because they have the least support/when the statue’s stressed cracks can have a bigger effect on smaller bits.
